Coarsegold began as a mining town in 1849 and sits midway between Fresno and Yosemite National Park. In fact it's very near the geographic center of California in the scenic foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Coarsegold Historic Village has always been a primary stop for tourists on their way north to Yosemite. In the 2019–2020 Visitors Guide & Membership Directory, the Coarsegold Chamber of Commerce wanted the center-spread map to not only be informative but also capture a bit of the historic feeling of the area.
